Blast From The Past Creative Photo Shoot With Artistic Curves & Kadien Artistry!

I had the pleasure of working with the amazing photographer Jim from Artistic Curves! We had a wicked time slamming out this pin up inspired photo set, using a mix of modern and vintage pieces of clothing and props! Starting with the 20's, we rock n rolled all the way to the 80's! I had such a blast working on this creative project with Jim and am so excited to share these shots!

Please check out my friend Jim's website! Along side photography, he is also an incredible body painter and his work is AWESOME!

10 Makeup Must Haves For A Destination Wedding!

As I packed up my makeup kit for this weeks destination wedding in Cuba, I had to be very selective on picking the best products that will perfect the look, beat the heat and stay all day! I thought I would share a little list of my top 10 beauty picks for a dreamy, beachy bridal party! Here they are!

1. MAC 24-Hour Extended Eye Base
Prime up those lids baby! This translucent, lightweight eye primer has the power to keep your eye makeup fresh all day and night with out creasing and balling up in the hot heat. A little goes a long way, prime, add shadow and expect it to stay all day!

2. MAC Fix +
Prior to makeup, give your skin a big ol drink of fix +! This fantastic product will plump the skin with water, hydrate the surface and ensure your skin feels soft and comfortable. Use to refresh during the day when you need a little pick me up and also to give the skin a natural glow.

3. MAC Pro long-wear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation
This foundation is the bomb! It can be used as foundation or concealer! I have discovered you don't need a primer with it, woo hoo! The less layers of makeup the better! This oil-free formula has a flawless blend into the skin, buildable coverage and you can totally jump in the ocean or pool, pop out the water and still look like a boss!

4. Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
After foundation, lock in the look with this fabulous setting powder. This beautiful product mattifies the skin, does not cake and crease up and does not reflect flash in photos! It is just a little jar of heaven,  if you are somewhere hot or not you should totally have it in your makeup bag!

5. Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray
Makeup isnt going no where once it is set with this magic mix! This bad boy locks in the look, and holds the makeup in place all day. Sweat, tears, oil, no problem, spritz this, set it and FORGET IT!

6. MAC Blot Powder
Now everyone is a little a different, some more oily than others. If that is the case it doesn't hurt to bring a little blot powder in your clutch to touch up any shiny spots before photos! Stay powder fresh all day with out ruining or building up on your existing application. This translucent tinted powder will absorb all that shine with out looking cakey afterwards!

7. Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof Mascara
Who says you have to spend an arm and a leg on a fancy waterproof mascara? This classic formula is lightweight, long-wearing, buildable and the best part... under $10.00!!!!!

8. MAC Eye Shadow x9 Palettes
These handy, little compact palettes are the perfect size for travel! With 9 gorgeous shades that all work together you can create a variety of different looks! They can be used wet or dry, and the packaging literally fits in the palm of your hand!

9. Kat Von D Ink Liner
This felt tip, black liquid liner has a wicked staying power! It is the blackest, black which I absolutely love, easy to move and create beautiful lines and lasts hours on end!

10. Pro Long Wear Lip Pencil
These long-wearing lip pencils glide on like a dream. Line out your lips or fill them in completely like you would  a lipstick for a long lasting lip look that does not transfer or move around once applied. Top with a lipstick or gloss or leave as is for a more matte finish!

BEHIND THE SCENES! Fresh Wedding Ideas brought to you by KW's Wedding Dream Team! Rustic. Geometric. Organic.

Finally! Time to share all the behind the scenes fun that took place during our styled shoot. We had such a talented team of local wedding vendors come together to plan and prepare this stunning photo shoot that is now featured in Elegant Wedding Magazine! Check it out!

This colour palette of deep reds, golds, deep jewel tones, whites, blush and lots of greenery is just beautiful for a winter wedding! Romantic, cozy and full of life, we could just feel the love in the air and of course all the excitement for the gorgeous images about to be captured! We had so much fun planning and perfecting all the small details that made this shoot so different. I really enjoyed putting together a polished, beauty look that would pop with this palette! I wanted it to stand out as  naturally glamorous using neutral and blush tones with gold to highlight Kara's features. Leah Craig hand crafted the gold, hanging geometric globes and they turned out so awesome! Lori Karpow hand made this beautiful, fresh garland that wrapped and surrounded the sweetheart table our lovely newly-wed models Kara and Adam sat at. And how about that suspended, upside down cake made by Chrissie!!! I have never seen that before and man did it look cool, not to mention smelled absolutely delicious. Stephanie's flower arrangements, colour combos and how she placed it all together was absolutely breathtaking, I could not take my eyes off them! Jessica nailed the stationary design integrating the geometric details and organic vibes we were all loving! Erin rocked the hair for both of our models! Kara's big, voluminous braid was so dreamy and structured just perfectly,  especially with the organic, green head piece she incorporated designed by Stephanie Karpow. Big thanks to Valentina’s Bridal for the oh so glamorous, vintage blush wedding dress Kara rocked! Huge thanks to Denise Belanger for capturing all this beauty and Leah for coordinating it all as well as the Arlington Hotel in Paris for allowing us to shoot in their romantic venue right on the water. I am so thrilled with how this all turned out, we truly are the ultimate wedding dream team!

Comeback shoot!

Way back, after I graduated from Complections, I moved back home from Toronto. I knew my next steps were to start building a killer portfolio that I would soon be able to share with the world. I used websites like Model Mayhem, Myspace and FB to connect with local talent and photographers in hopes that we could collaborate and create some magic. I met so many amazing people along this journey but I wanted to share in particular a little story about an amazing photographer who I had met named Simon. Now I cant remember all the small details this was so long ago, but in a nutshell, we were brought together in the attic of an old home along with a wicked, fun model named Stevie and  an amazing, local clothing designer named Michelle to do what we all loved most, make art. Simon had a ton of props, antiques and a wild imagination.  Little did we know that our creative minds would click together like pieces of a puzzle. Simon understood my visions, as I understood his, and from that very first shoot we realized this and became great friends. We worked on so many creatives over the years, and told our twisted stories through these images. We would do a photo shoot just about anywhere! From rooftops to incinerators, run down abandon buildings to radio stations.  Now it has been a while since we have created some art but the time has come and were ready to get back at er with the original crew. Simon, Stevie and I will be working on our next piece very soon! Stay tuned!!

Ladies Night! DIY At Home Wedding Prep Spa!

The big day is creeping up ever so quickly!! Money is tight, pimples be coming out of no where and the dark circles are just a little more visible than on a normal day. Stress, excitement and all the emotion paints our faces with all those special little bits were not so happy to see. So how do we take care of these little surprises last minute with out paying out the wazoo at the spa? Keep reading!!

Gather the girls for a spa night in to refresh, brighten and prepare skin ! Grab the comfies, slippers, and a great play list! You can always incorporate some veggie and fruit trays into an event like this for everyone to enjoy,  food makes everything better!! Honeydew and watermelon are delicious and an amazing, natural way to reduce water weight! The key is to stay super hydrated, inside and out so get a big ol' jug of H20 , slice up your favorite fruits to throw in there for some anti oxidant action! Lemons to refresh and any kind of berries are  great add ins! For a hot drink, grab a box of green tea bags! Not only can you use these to make a yummy beverage packed with anti oxidants and anti aging benefits but you can also use green tea bags as a de-puffing eye mask when dipped into cold water. Create your own at home face mask that will give you the glow with some fresh strawberries and some talc free baby powder. Blend up 4 strawberries to 1/2 tea spoon of baby powder for about 2 minutes and apply to skin for 5 minutes, rinse off with warm water or mineral water. Strawberries have so many benefits that cleanse, tone, protect and treat our skin! Pop those green tea bags on your eyes while you kick back with your mask on for the most relaxing experience.  Last but not least, grab some left over pineapple from the fruit tray and rub all over your lips to soften, throw on a little Vaseline to lock all that juicy goodness and vitamin c in and your set!
Gotta love a good girls night!

15 Must Have Items for your Bridal Beauty Survival Bag!

Here comes the bride, and her team of powder puffed beauty ninjas prepped and ready to take on any make up malfunction or complication standing in their way!! How do they do it? What power lies in that mystery bag?  The secrets have been revealed and here they are!!

1. TISSUES! No-brainer I know BUT here's a tip to go along with that: FOLD AND PAT LADIES! Everything runs a little higher and faster on the big day, your temperature, emotions, nose the list goes on! Take your tissue, fold it into four to create a mini beauty pad. Snug it up under your bottom lash line to allow tears to run right into it with out smudging your make up or streaming down your cheeks. You can also use this to pat away sweat, your nose and zip up lipstick on your teeth! Pulling and rubbing will move around your make up and require more touch ups during the day!! Ain't no body got time for that!

2. Bandages. Yes, some one could get a little boo boo and need a little aid but I'm talking bandages for those blisters that will bust out on the dance floor in those beautiful heels you have been rocking all day! MUST HAVE! On that note, an extra pair of those fold up flats wouldn't hurt to have either!

3. Tampons. Some ones gonna get it, or someones gonna forget it!

4. Double-sided tape. Not too many people would like to be remembered as the nip slipper at their best friends wedding!

5. Blot powder. The sweat, the shine the face gets slick at times, this is not the best looking in photos! This isn't the kind of highlight you want to rock when you have spent all this time and money to look your best! Blot away shine and oil prior to photos to maintain a beautiful, matte finish!

6. Compact mirror. Just to keep an eye on things that may need to be touched up or removed!

7. Nail file. Nothing is worse then putting on your gorgeous gown and getting a snag from a jagged nail , zip away quick and seal up your snag with some clear nail polish, another little gem to add to the goody bag!

8. A little sewing kit with a needle, thread, scissors and safety pins in different sizes for any wardrobe malfunctions.

9. Q-tips. For clean ups and touch ups!

10. Advil. You never know when a head ache could come about, don't let it ruin your night !

11. Lipstick. Gotta touch up them lips after all that food and mingling.

12. Lash glue. If anyone decided to do lashes,  a little lash glue to go doesn't hurt just in case the tears wear it down and your lash pops off. A couple q-tips in a zip lock bag will assist you with the application!

13. Bobby pins and mini comb to keep the hair looking fab!

14. Gum for after dinner dancing, fresh breath is a wonderful thing when the music is too loud and people are trying to talk to you while jamming out on the dance floor.

15. Deodorant. Its a gonna be along day, you may need a swipe or two 5 hours in!

That about sums up the top 15-20 items you will need for your just in case beauty bag! Take what you will, you will be ready!
